FIRM OVERVIEW
Chinus Asset Management (“CHAM”) was founded in 2008 by Charles Mautz and Pete Nickerson to enable U.S. investors to access the historic wealth being created across China and emerging Asia.
We recognized that traditional, Western investment approaches often fall short in these markets—overlooking critical differences in culture, networks, and business practices. As a result, many investors underestimated risk and missed the region’s most compelling opportunities.
At CHAM, we believe successful investing in emerging Asia depends on access to the right local expertise. Over more than three decades, we have built deep relationships and market insight that provide access to high-quality local managers with a distinct edge.
We have an established track record of identifying and investing in some of the most successful local managers in China, India, and Southeast Asia. These managers often were not widely known outside their home countries, and we have been the first, or among the first, foreign investor into several of them. Many are no longer accepting capital from new investors, so our funds offer unique access.
Selected Investment Experience
China Long/Short Equity Manager
We were the first foreign investor following the global financial crisis, investing when the firm managed approximately $100 million in assets. The manager has since grown into one of China’s leading hedge funds, with assets exceeding $20 billion and a global institutional investor base.
India Private Markets & Public Equity Investor
We were the first institutional investor, backing the firm at an early stage with less than $30 million in assets. The manager has since become a leading investor in India’s consumer and technology sectors, with early investments in several category-defining companies and assets growing to over $2 billion.
Vietnam Public Equity Strategy
We were among the first U.S. investors in a differentiated structure that provides access to local equities not subject to foreign ownership limits. This structure enables meaningful exposure to leading Vietnamese companies that are otherwise difficult for offshore investors to access.
